Appendix A Summary

Appendix A broadly covered the internet as a whole, including its history, methods of connection, local and wide area networks (LANs and WANs, respectively), and internet service providers. My own experience with the internet was mostly limited to YouTube, Google Images, and a handful of Flash game websites (many of which no longer exist, or have been heavily modified) until I was 13 or so. Since then, I’ve spent a large amount of time teaching myself how to efficiently navigate the web, and I would argue my search-engine-usage skills have improved a lot!
Another thing which I have greatly improved upon is avoiding malware… Although I don’t remember the specifics, I do remember my child self infecting the family computer with malware multiple times. In fact, this happened so frequently that my dad banned me from using the family desktop unsupervised until I was around 10 years old. In hindsight, I don’t blame him for doing that. A few years after the ban, my mom allowed me to use her personal desktop computer for a research project, and the very first website I visited ended up infecting the computer so badly that it killed the motherboard. Thankfully, as stated earlier, I have become much better at avoiding sketchy websites or downloads, and I can proudly say that I have not destroyed any other computers since that incident.
